Taps ’70 ☜

Chapter heads from a vintage Clemson University yearbook. When I find myself in a used bookstore or thrift shop I’m inclined to thumb through school yearbooks from the late 1960s and early 70s in search of interesting graphics. While the covers are often promising, the contents are almost always disappointing. In this case, there’s little about the depressing red and grey cloth cover that would suggest the colorful and strange graphics inside. I find these crudely drawn illustrations and type treatments intriguing as they naively, yet effectively, marry simple art deco geometry with a bubbly pop art sensibility. Clemson University, 1970.
