I Saw a Ship A-Sailing ☜
Mother Goose is drenched in an unusual color palette by the Italian artist, Beni Montresor. Montresor’s red line art, green skies, and dramatic use of scale give these classic rhymes an otherworldly, psychedelic effect, creating illustrations that wouldn’t look out of place on a Fillmore poster or in an underground newspaper. Montresor produced several children’s books but was best known as an opera set and costume designer. He also worked with many film directors including Federico Fellini, to whom he dedicates this book. Borzio/Alfred A. Knopf, Inc., 1967.
“This book is dedicated to Federico Fellini who, too, was born from a flower-plant.”
